Last Thursday, 25th of April, the gallery of Soppa de Azul hosted an opening of Universidad Popular la Paterna. The Universtiy has been established in 1986 as an initiative of the City Council of Las Palmas Gran Canaria. Currently, it has centers throughout the municipality. Its students have presented painting on the topic of 4 seasons. To describe each of the season, they used poems from a famous 18th century English poet James Thomson. One his most famous pieces is The Seasons.

In the exhibition were used following parts:

Come, gentle Spring, ethereal mildness come;
And from the bosom of yon dropping cloud,
While music wakes around, veil’d in a shower
Of shadowing roses, on our plains descend.
O HERTFORD, fitted or to shine in court
With unaffected grace, or walk the plain
With innocence and meditation join’d,
In soft assemblage, listen to my Song,
Which thy own season paints; where Nature all
Is blooming, and benevolent, like thee.

While, from his ardent look, the turning Spring
Averts her blushful face; and earth, and skies,
All-smiling, to his hot dominion leaves.

Where scarce a sunbeam wanders through the gloom;
And on the dark-green grass, beside the brink
Of haunted stream, that by the roots of oak
Rolls o’er the rocky channel, lie at large,
And sing the glories of the circling year.

Welcome, kindred glooms!
Congenial horrors, hail! With frequent foot,
Pleas’d have I, in my cheerful morn of life,
When nurs’d by careless solitude I liv’d
And sung of Nature with unceasing joy,
Crowned with the sickle and the wheaten sheaf
While Autumn nodding o’er the yellow plain
Comes jovial on, the Doric reed once more
Well-pleased I tune.

The exhibition opened with a live music band, that performed traditional rhythmical Canarian music. After the official speech and welcome by one of the teachers, guests could have a drink and enjoy the atmosphere in the gallery of Soppa de Azul.
